Christmas is a time for celebration with family and friends, and it can be tempting to go to great lengths to decorate your home to make it look festive. But if you’re not careful, putting up decorations can seriously damage your doors and walls.  Here are some tips that will help you to put up Christmas decorations without damaging your doors.

What are the best ways to hang Christmas decorations without damaging your doors?

1. Don’t use nails or screws in the door

It is really important that you do not use nails or screws in your doors, as this will cause lasting damage. Screw and nails can cause splinters in wooden and uPVC doors which cannot be fixed without replacing the entire door blade.

2. Use mounting strips or tape

Mounting strips, or mounting tape is an adhesive material that is mostly used to hang items, such as picture frames, to walls and doors without the need for nails and screws. Use a reliable brand such as “Command” as these are surprisingly strong and very reliable.

Peel the back off the self-adhesive strips. They have 2 sticky sides to attach to both the door and the item you wish to hang. Start at one corner of the item you wish to hang, and begin attaching your strips lengthways across the top of your item, leaving equal spacing between the strips to evenly distribute the weight.

Once Christmas is over, you can easily remove the strips or tape without peeling the paintwork from your door.

3. Hang decorations from the door frame or around your door

If you do not have specialist adhesive strips available, it is best to avoid hanging anything from your door entirely. If you are lucky enough to have exposed brickwork around your door, you can settle for using regular tape on brickwork, as it is more sturdy and less likely to be damaged when compared to uPVC or wooden doors or painted walls.

4. Use removable adhesive hooks

Similarly to adhesive strips and tape, adhesive hooks are a great option for hanging wreaths or string lights, just make sure you use enough to support the weight of the item you are hanging and you distribute the weight of the item evenly.

Now that you have some ideas for how to hang decorations from your doors and doorframes, without causing lasting damage, all you need to do is decide on your colour scheme and decorations!
